Donut King

Donut King is a small, family owned donut and sandwich shop located at Montgomery Village Mall. We frequent this place for breakfast just because their donuts are moist, tastey and filling. Apart from the donuts, I think that our favorite, Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant, is the King of tastey.  This breakfast sandwich is consistently made fresh and delicious. For some people, this breakfast sandwich sounds easy and simple, but Donut King's version is soft, balanced, delicious and filling.

Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant - a favorite.

For a delicious, simple, filling and affordable meal, I recommend Donut King.

Huli-Huli Chicken

When I was still living in O'ahu, my Mom would come home at least once a week with a bag of Hul-Huli Chicken. If you've been to Hawaii, you've probably heard about Hawaii's own version of barbecue Chicken. I've never heard of Huli-Huli Chicken being served at restaurants but they're usually served at road side stores, flea market stands and truck stores. I know when I see and smell authentic Huli-Huli Chicken. This is no ordinary barbecue Chicken and it is far off from the grocery rotesserie Chicken. Mike's Huli-Huli Chicken is super ono.  I happen to find Mike's Kiawe Broiled Huli-Huli Chicken during one of our holo-holo drives in Kaneohe last year. Boy, it was a feastful kind of find because I've been craving Mike's Kiawe Broiled Huli-Huli Chicken ever since.

The smell of barbecue is oh so inviting.
Mike's store truck.
The menu is simple and the prices are affordable.
Mike also sells Kalua Pig.
This is a whole chicken (cut up) served with rice and salad. Once you bite into one of these chicken, expect an explosion of flavor in your mouth.
How can you not enjoy your Huli-Huli Chicken if you're eating picnic style with a view of the Koolau Mountains?

I highly recommend Mike's Kiawe Broiled Huli-Huli Chicken. So if you happen to be in the Kaneohe area, do not miss that yellow food truck and that delicious, hunger inducing aroma of Huli-Huli Chicken. Believe me, you'll not regret you stopped. I am certainly going back for more Huli-Huli Chicken on my next visit to Hawaii.

Santorini's Coffee And Crepe

In Santorini, lunch is a combo of spectacular views, caffeine kicking Greek coffee and a Nutella and Banana crepe. I really enjoyed exploring Santorini and I also enjoyed trying out some of the food and snacks the island has to offer.

Postcard from Santorini.

Greek coffee - nutty, tastey and strong. I think one cup would keep me awake for a day or two.

Nutella and Banana crepe. This was really delicious. I think this is a no brainer since I'm a Nutella fan in the first place. It's hard not to like anything with Nutella. I wanted to order Baklava, but the shop ran out that day.

And the bill interestingly comes in a shot glass.

Oh My Malasadas!

Malasadas are LOVE!!! I consider Malasadas one of the best pastries I've ever tasted.

Apart from family and the beach, one of the many reasons I go home to Hawaii is to have a feast of Loenoard's Malasadas. These sugary sweet on the outsite and soft, chewy in the inside Portuguese donuts are so popular in O'ahu. For me, I love to eat them in the morning or the afternoon and they're perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. I could eat three of these in one sitting, and I just love how this pastry melts in my mouth with every bite.

Leonard's makes them as you order so you always get them fresh from the frier. The best time to eat them is when they're warm and fresh. So I suggest that if you make it to O'ahu, don't fail to taste these heaven-on-earth donuts.

I would love to have a Malasada right now.

You can find Malasadas at the following locations:

Hawaii's Max's Restaurant

My first Max experience was in Waipahu (Hawaii), and since that day, I became a fan of their crispy, fried chicken. Whenever I go home to the islands, I insist on having lunch or dinner at Max. Going home to Hawaii last month, I made sure that Max was on my Where To Eat list. The place didn't disappoint. Also, their prices are affordable especially for family dining. For this certain occasion, it was my brother's birthday. There were five of us and we only spent $50.

The Pancit Canton was good but nothing really special about it.
Pork Sisig was a hit. Spicy and tastey the way I like it.
My favorite so far is this crispy and delicious chicken. I love to eat this with banana ketchup on the side.
For dessert, Mom and I shared a glass of Mais con Queso. I can order this over and over again.

How I wish there's Max here in the DC area.

Pho & Grill's Đặc biệt Mì Quảng

I finally tasted Pho & Grill's Chef's Special Seafood Noodle - Đặc biệt Mì Quảng, and I love it. It's totally different from the usual Pho because this one has crab cakes, shrimp, and some egg pancakes. The broth is on the salty side and comes with a little kick of spice.

This is a good meal especially this winter time.
Verdict: It's tastey and delicious.

Silver Diner At Lakeforest Mall

We started frequenting Silver Diner a few months ago, and I think this is becoming a favorite breakfast place. What I love about this place is that it uses organic ingredients from nearby farms and that their eggs arrive fresh from the Amish farms in Pennsylvania. Apart from the fresh ingredients, their food is delicious and worth going back to over and over again.

I could drink a cup or two of Silver Diner's bold coffee.
French toasts with bacon and eggs.
Waffles with bacon and eggs.

Silver Diner's service is good, and I love their rewards method (You get coupons for birthdays and $5 off when you reach a certain amount of visits). Also, their food has been deliciously consistent.
